Online relationship counselling for individuals

Support through changing relationships.

Individual therapy for the relationship and family pressures that affect your wellbeing. Your partner doesn’t need to attend.

Can I come without my partner?

Yes. You can seek individual relationship counselling whether your partner wants to attend counselling or not. You may be trying to understand a difficult dynamic, find your voice or work out what you need during a period of change.

These sessions focus on you as an adult. They can include parenting concerns, but they are not appointments for children.

What you can talk about

  • Relationship difficulties, boundaries and communication.
  • Separation, divorce or the end of a relationship.
  • Parenting stress and changes in family roles.
  • Adjusting to loss, uncertainty or a different future.

Working towards your goals

Your psychologist listens to what has been happening and helps you explore its effect on your thoughts, emotions and daily life. You can look at patterns, identify what is within your control and plan practical next steps.

You set the priorities together. The aim is to support your wellbeing and your decisions, not to assume what the right outcome should be.

If safety is a concern

If you feel afraid of a partner or family member, tell your psychologist so that safety can be part of the plan. You can also contact 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 for confidential support.

Individual or couples sessions?

Individual therapy focuses on your own mental health and relationship concerns. Couples counselling brings both partners into the work. If you’re not sure which suits, choose “Not sure yet” when you request an appointment.

Video and phone sessions

Video sessions use Coviu. Phone sessions are available for individual therapy when video isn’t practical and phone care is clinically suitable. You’ll need to be in Australia, somewhere private, during each session. How sessions work.

Medicare rebates depend on assessment and treatment of an eligible mental health condition. A relationship or parenting concern alone doesn’t automatically qualify. How Medicare works.
